Rolling Meadows, IL, USA—With final plans set for ISACA’s CSX 2017 North America, a Cybersecurity Nexus (CSX) conference in Washington DC, 2-4 October, early registration shows heavy interest in sessions related to blockchain and risk, in addition to a host of cyber-centric session titles.

Gerard Dache, president of the Government Blockchain Association and a co-presenter of “Blockchain, Transforming Cybersecurity,” is not surprised at the popularity of what he terms a “blockchain basics” conference session, given the continued surge in media coverage.

“Clearly the world is going blockchain. Blockchain technology could potentially impact every transaction involving the transfer of money, property or information,” Dache said. “The question for security professionals is how does this impact our ability to secure assets and information.”

While Dache’s content is introductory, perennial ISACA conference top speaker Uday Ali Pabrai will emphasize the science and art of risk assessments to establish credible cyber security programs during his CSX 2017 North America session. Pabrai, a member of the U.S. FBI’s Infragard and CEO of ECFIRST and listed as one of Inc. Magazine’s 500 fastest-growing businesses in the first year of eligibility, holds several industry credentials, including MSEE, CISSP (ISSAP, ISSMP), HITRUST CCSFP and Security+.

“In 2017, it’s about ‘verify, then trust,’” noted Pabrai. “Every organization must have a credible cyber security program, but few do. It is an art; it is science. Performing risk assessments have become critical to ensure we verify the state of enterprise security in an organization through an assessment.”

These sessions are among the many technical skills, cyber strategy and career development components of CSX North America, which kicks off National Cyber Security Awareness month in the U.S., held at the iconic Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. ISACA will also feature developments related to its recently released CSX Training Platform, which offers cyber security practitioners, managers and those looking to hire cyber security talent, an easily accessible, regularly updated educational and testing environment.

This year’s event offers seven educational pathways, each featuring an essential and an advanced level for cyber security practitioners and managers. These pathways align to the U.S. Government’s NIST framework for Cyber Security preparedness and relate to specific topic areas:

  • Identify (Asset Management, Business Continuity Planning, Systems Governance, Risk Assessment)
  • Protect (Organizational Awareness, Data Security, Enterprise Policies)
  • Detect (Breach Detection, Systems Monitoring)
  • Respond (Breach Incident Response, Breach Mitigation, Process Improvements)
  • Recover (Disaster Recovery Planning, External and Internal Communications)
  • Defend (Staffing, Education, Management and Team Leadership)
  • Explore (New Technology and Innovation Solutions)

Cyber security professionals also can participate in pre-conference, hands-on workshops. Dates and workshop topics include 2-day workshops (14 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits).
